FLAT RACK CONTAINER
A loading floor with two end walls, nothing else in the way
A flat rack container (also written as flatrack) has no roof or side walls: only a reinforced floor and two side supports. You load from above, from the side or via the side supports, using a crane or forklift. This makes the flat rack the solution for oversized and heavy loads that cannot fit in any closed container: machines, transformers, boats, steel structures and project loads.
Many models have foldable head sections. Transporting them empty costs a fraction because multiple folded flat racks are stacked on top of each other. RCC provides flat racks in 20ft, 40ft and 40ft high cube, new (A-grade) or used (B-grade). Flat racks are scarcer than standard containers and often have longer lead times; ask our team for the current stock.

WHY A FLAT RACK FROM RCC
Flat racks you can rely on
Fixed or collapsible
Flat racks with fixed head sections are the simplest and strongest version. Collapsible head sections make return transport without cargo much cheaper. We advise based on your load and route.
CSC-certified and ready for immediate use
Every flat rack we deliver is CSC-certified, so you can transport it by sea, road and rail immediately. If you want to put the container under your own prefix, we will arrange that.
Own workshop for modifications
Additional lashing points, wooden or steel floor sections, a customized coating or a support system for your cargo: in our workshop in Rotterdam-Botlek, we adapt the flat rack to your project.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions
What is the difference between a flat rack and an open top container?
An open top container has side walls and a removable cover; you load from the top, but the cargo remains within the width of the container. A flat rack has no roof and no side walls. Cargo that is wider than 2.44 meters, or that you have to load from the side, therefore belongs on a flat rack.
What sizes of flat rack containers does RCC supply?
We supply 20ft, 40ft and 40ft high cube flat racks. The external dimensions follow the ISO standard: 6.06 or 12.19 meters long and 2.44 meters wide. The 40ft high cube has higher head sections (2.90 meters) for higher cargo load.
Can I rent a flat rack instead of buying it?
Yes. Flat racks are available for sale and rental. For one-time project loads, renting is often the most cost-effective option; for regular use, buying is more economical. Request a quote and we will calculate both options for you.
How much weight can be placed on a flat rack?
That depends on the configuration: new 40ft flat racks generally carry significantly more than used 20ft ones. The maximum load weight is shown on the CSC plate of the container and on the product page of the configuration you choose.
