More information

Everything about container inspections

CSC inspections

The Convention for Safe Containers (CSC) is the international agreement regarding safe containers. All containers used in international transport must meet the requirements of this agreement. New containers receive the CSC container inspection in the factory, after which a CSC plate is attached to the container doors. This plate is valid for five years and contains information about the container, such as the type, manufacturer, year of construction, serial number, weight, and the validity date of the plate. Maximum five years after the first inspection, the container must be re-CSC-certified by an authorized repair shop.

Visual DNV inspections

DNV stands for Det Norske Veritas. The organization provides certification for welders and welding inspectors. A welding inspector is responsible for visually inspecting welding connections. The inspector performs this inspection on the container according to established standards. When the inspection yields a positive result, and the welding work is therefore safe, the container receives a certificate.

On hire/off hire surveys

When renting containers, one of our specialties, the inspection of each container is very important. Of course, you want to be sure that you are renting a safe, solid container from us. To guarantee this, we carry out on-hire and off-hire inspections. An on-hire container inspection shows the condition of a container when renting it. With the off-hire container inspection, we check that the container is returned in the same condition.

MPI inspection

With MPI (Magnetic Particle Inspection) container inspection, it is possible to detect hairline cracks in materials in a timely manner. With magnetic testing, these cracks can be detected in welding work and load-bearing structures. With this inspection method, a magnetic field is applied to the material. Where cracks and irregularities are detected, the magnetic field is disrupted. This allows deviations to be detected early and repaired.

CSC inspections for modified containers

R.C.C. Container Trading in Rotterdam modifies many containers. In our workshop, we provide custom-made solutions for containers in the form of loop doors, windows, lighting, and air vents. After the modification on the container, a new inspection is required. This can be requested based on the drawings and calculations that must be prepared in advance. When a container is built according to the drawing and the CSC inspection results in a positive result, the modified container receives a new CSC plate that is valid for at least one year.

The inspection of a rebuild open top container

After repair, a container with us also receives a CSC plate that is valid for at least twelve months. The exception to this is the rebuild open top container. These containers, which we build ourselves, receive a 30-month CSC plate after the container inspection. The rebuilds are also DNV/GL-certified.

We work independently

To ensure safety and an independent inspection, some container inspections are carried out by independent inspectors. They come to our depot for the inspection and certify the relevant container on-site. R.C.C. Container Trading in Rotterdam can, in short, facilitate any inspection.
